How to compare riser recliners on the things that actually matter: fit, mechanism, fabric, warranty and aftercare.
Two chairs can look almost identical and suit you very differently. Comparing them properly means putting each one against the same short list of practical questions.
Start with fit
- Seat height measured against the length of your lower leg
- Seat depth, so you can sit back with a small gap behind the knees
- Seat width, comfortable without putting the arms out of reach
- Back height and headrest support for your height
Stock sizes suit many people. If you are particularly tall, petite or broad, ask which providers offer made-to-measure sizing.
Then the mechanism
Single motor chairs move the backrest and legrest together. Dual motor chairs move them independently, which suits anyone who wants to raise their legs while sitting upright, or recline much further back. Ask about battery backup for power cuts.
Fabric and cleaning
Check whether the fabric is treated, how it should be cleaned, and whether replacement covers or arm caps are available. Wipe-clean options are worth considering if spills are likely.
Warranty and aftercare
- Cover on motors, frame and upholstery listed separately
- Whether labour and home visits are included
- How repairs are handled, and how quickly
- Whether servicing is available after the warranty ends
Delivery and setup
Confirm delivery to the room of your choice, assembly, a demonstration, packaging removal and, if you need it, removal of your old chair. Measure doorways and access in advance.
