Understanding warranties and aftercare

What mobility equipment warranties usually cover, where the gaps are, and how to judge an aftercare package.

Warranty headlines can be misleading. A 'ten year warranty' may cover only the frame, while the parts most likely to need attention are covered for a year.

Read the components separately

  • Frame — often the longest cover
  • Motors and actuators — typically 1–5 years
  • Electronics and handsets — often shorter
  • Upholstery and mattresses — varies widely, and wear is usually excluded
  • Batteries — commonly 6–12 months on scooters

Parts, labour and call-outs

Ask whether labour is included and whether an engineer will visit your home. A parts-only warranty can still leave you with a bill.

Response times

For equipment you rely on daily, how quickly a provider responds matters more than the length of the warranty. Ask what their typical repair turnaround is and whether loan equipment is available.

Your statutory rights

A warranty is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which require goods to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
